Debt Dispute and Verification Letter
The FDCPA is a federal law that gives protections to consumers when dealing with debt collectors. It places limits on the times and places a debt collector may contact you, what they can say to you, and who the debt collector can talk to about your debt. The law also allows you dispute the debt, and have the debt collector verify the debt. This is a sample letter you can use to dispute a debt, and instructions for how to complete it. For more detailed information on disputing a debt, see the Classroom on Dealing with Debt Collectors.
